before i forget... the hair

I want to make sure I have documented this somewhere, because something tells me I will forget to bring the photos in to my hairstylist the day of the wedding!
I've been wanting to go for a vintage-esque hair style that wasn't too fussy, overdone, but still classic. I thought I wanted a combo of pincurls and finger waves, like Katherine Heigl's done for several events, like this photoshoot for Vanity Fair:

But, if you've known me, you know I love my bangs. Like, a lot. And I don't necessarily want to do the 'swoop' that's been so popular lately.
So believe me when I tell you that *this* is the perfect hairstyle, on a bride beautifully captured by Chenin Boutwell:

Swoon, heart heart. Question for you more hairstyle-savvy than myself-- what the heck would I call this? It looks like there are some look pin curls that are pinned into a kind of chignon-y thing... but it's much less structured than what the description I just typed sounds like. Now I've had some *very* bad experiences with formal hairdos before, so I cannot have that happen on my wedding date! Any thoughts/advice folks? I won't be meeting my hairdresser for a trial until two days before the wedding, so... I need to get this right. Help!

I am the wrong person to say what a hairstyle is called... but I had to comment because I love the Katherine Heigel pic, and might consider doing something like that myself.
